Summary

This chapter introduced basic concepts of MPLS-VPN architectures for broadband networks and looked at the impact of connecting broadband subscribers to an MPLS VPN.

The new architectural concepts for broadband are Virtual Home Gateways and VRF extension to the CE, with Multi-VRF CE. These are conceptually quite simple, and you saw examples of each in this chapter. The difficulty is in the details.

VRF awareness is an important concept, and specific Cisco IOS features or subsystems need to be modified before they can work on a PE. Chapter 6 looks at these more closely.
